Ultra Low Phase Noise TCXO Products in Small, Size Reduced Packages.
NEL Frequency Controls manufacures market leading temperature compensated crystal oscillators (TCXOs). Customers needing high frequency, fully characterized, ‘best in class’ phase noise crystal oscillators choose NEL Frequency Controls for their leading edge requirements. Ultra low phase noise TCXO application support is available upon request.
What is a TCXO oscillator?
TCXOs are crystal oscillators that are used to provide high levels of stability within a variant temperature environment. Their function is very similar to OCXOs (oven controlled crystal oscillator). Both devices use quartz crystals to deliver frequencies with low phase noises and excellent stability over long distances.
The primary difference between a TCXO oscillator and OCXO is that OCXOs contain the quartz crystal in an oven like device to maintain a constant operating temperature. TCXOs, on the other hand, use a temperature sensitive reactance circuit in its oscillation loop to compensate for temperature changes and maintain a highly stable frequency. Since they don’t contain an oven device, TCXOs are typically much more compact than OCXOs.
TCXO applications
Because they provide such excellent frequency stability, TCXO oscillators are commonly utilized for wireless applications in the telecommunications industry. They are also put to use in GPS and a wide variety of consumer products. Generally, TCXOs are used for applications that have varying temperatures and that require a smaller size and lower power consumption than an OCXO can provide.
